After a long wait, I’ve finally started printing. This one is not much more than a test, but it’s going in the right direction. I’m excited about having another design tool in my arsenal.

I don’t have time to complete the whole block print in the time I had today, but I did get the first step done, and I thought you might like to see my process. I basically make a copy after copy for the original image, getting it into a negative/reversed version, appropriate for printing. The way I do it is almost like making a photocopy of a photocopy. Every time I make a copy, the lines lose detail and shapes simplify. Hopefully multiple prints will follow tomorrow.

I find a lot of good subject matter in my children’s toys. This was a good exercise in perspective and proportion. I’m very happy with the way it turned out. I think tomorrow I should have more time for something more intensive.

I know I already did this idea before, but I was hoping to develop it into something more complex, but it didn’t happen. It’s an okay drawing, but I need to get away from this stuff. I promise you, a block print will be coming this weekend.

I didn’t have time again for a block print. I’m hoping soon, I have the idea all down in my head, I just need the time to execute it.

While in Portland I went and saw a very nice Japanese garden, that just re-awoke my love of the Japanese design element. This piece is inspired by the Zen rock garden.

Well, sketching on an airplane experiencing turbulence isn’t very easy, but I did get this one done. I’ll be producing from home tomorrow, so the quality should improve, and hopefully it won’t be another doodle.

Okay, first off, I’m not late posting, because I’m currently in Pacific time, and it’s not midnight here yet. I win on a technicality.
I was in the Portland Rose Test Garden today, and did this quick sketch there. I thought I’d have more time to do something else, so you don’t get two rose drawings in a row, but I ran out of time, so two roses it is!

Well, I’m in Portland and it’s famous for it’s roses, so have a doodle rose please. More from Portland tomorrow!

Okay, so I don’t have a lot of time to create today, because I’m leaving town for Portland tomorrow. Doing this doodle cracked me up, and it’s good practice for the couple days I’ll be gone. Don’t worry, I’ll do my hardest to post art for the next couple days.
