Day 14 – Eye

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I really was not happy with the sketches from the last couple days, so I thought I should starting working on the detail, instead of just worrying about the whole picture. I also caught myself starting to look at this project as a chore, which I really don’t want it to become. I need to work on things that excite me. Maybe I’ll go back to more cut paper, that was exciting.

Day 13 – Portrait of a Robot

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I’m sill not very happy with the self portrait I did yesterday, so I thought I’d go with something a little more simple. It’s what nightmares are made of

A friend and co-worker of mine has also recently started a daily art blog, attempting to do one 15 minute sketch a day. He also works on his own web-comic which is also found on the same site. Please, show him as much love as you show me.

Day 12 – Self Portrait

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Well, it was bound to come to a self portrait before too long. I think it came out okay, but I think I look a little too much like Bobby Hill for my taste. And a note to prove that I’m just posting what I make, please note the error line in my cheek/lower jaw. I also made myself a little heavier than I really am. It’s okay, and it was a nice exercise.

Day 11 – Hearts

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

I once again asked my daughter what I should make art of, and this time she told me to “make a heart”, so I did. I made three! I think it came out okay, but I think I’d like it more if I did some printing on it as well.

Day 10 – Cut Paper Bass Player

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I don’t know what it is about the jazz bass player that I enjoy, but I do. I think it’s how everything is so big. I’m also happy with working in cut paper. It lets me use color without using paint of pencils.

Day 9 – Paint Tube

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Today you get a little more color. I was hoping to start work on a hand-printing project, but my old tools seem to be MIA. Hopefully tomorrow, I can have something of a little more substance.

Week 1 – Satisfactory Start

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Well, it looks like I’ve survived this experiment for a week now, and I think things are going okay. I really would like to move away from just doing drawings and doodles now and try to produce some more prints or paintings.

Now, I want to clarify that I’m posting EVERYTHING that I’m making, whether if it’s crap or not. I want everyone to see the progression of going from 0 to 60 (or 365 in my case). This is just not a showcase of my art, but hopefully a tool to let people know that there is a lot more going on with the artistic process than they may think. Well, at least with my artistic process.

Any suggestions and criticisms are more than welcome. Please don’t feel shy, if an artist can’t take criticism, then they are certainly not the the correct field.

Day 8 – Coke Zombie

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Okay, so I don’t really know what I was thinking with this one, other than it makes me laugh. It’s also an exercise in just drawing without a model. I need to be able to do things like that if I’m ever going to complete this year project. Now, who doesn’t love zombies, and who doesn’t love Coke?

Day 7 – Artist as a Superhero

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I had this idea in my head last night, but didn’t really have any time to do it, so I took care of it this morning. First off, it’s a doodle, and it’s me, Andy, as a superhero. I used to draw superheros all the time as a kid, and I actually did my undergraduate senior art exhibit using superheroes. I guess they’re just kind of close to my heart.
